Twitter Agnostics – Yes, They Exist
It may seem hard to believe, but there are people in the world who have no idea that Twitter even exists. This site may have taken over the world in large part, but there are still and will continue to be people who do not have an idea of what it is, less still of its massive reach around the world.
This is all the more astounding considering that Twitter has managed to spread its influence into many and varying areas of our consciousness, and more people and organizations fall under its spell every day. If you watch sport on television you will find that it doesn't take long for the announcers to invite your opinion via Twitter. If you watch rolling news coverage, the same will become apparent.
British newspaper The Guardian even used Twitter as part of its April Fools’ Day story in 2009, announcing that in the near future, the paper would discontinue its print edition to go over onto Twitter completely, reducing every news story to 140 characters in order to do so.
People who have managed to remain steadfastly disinterested as sites like MySpace and Facebook took a significant proportion of the world by storm have fallen for Twitter in a big way. And still, some people with the web at their fingertips remain agnostic about Twitter. What will be the site that causes them to fall? Only time will tell. But whatever it is, it will probably make the creator of the site a very rich individual.
